It is now a full year since a trip to Europe to spend Christmas with the family of my ex (notice how I avoided having to work out how to spell ex's?!?). It was a pretty emotional time for me, my relationship was not in a good place, I was terribly unhappy and unfulfilled at work and I felt pretty hopeless about the future because I thought I had missed my chance of living and working overseas.
I came home from that trip so desperate for change that the lack of support I received from my partner saw the end of my relationship and I knew I had to leave my home city in order to get some spark back in my life. So I packed up my belongings, left behind some long sought after and relatively new quality friendships and headed south to the place we Sydney-siders simply call "Mexico". I am loving my new life in Melbourne so much so that I have just spent the last few hours going through 6 boxes of books (and earning myself a whopper bruise for my efforts) I had stored at my folks house in order to ship them down to my new place in Melbourne. For a literary lady such as myself moving the books signifies commitment. That's right Mexico, I have tested the waters and I am now committing to you as my home town.
I can't say the journey has been without some major bumps though. I foolishly let Mr Smythe back into my life which resulted in this, my new job has even less of the things I have been looking for than my old job and I have seriously missed my friends and family through some very tough times. So 2011 appears to have been a definite case of "testing the waters" - with the usual hiccups that occur when one is doing such things but with the aforementioned "moving of books" commitment ceremony well underway 2012 is set to be amazing. I am no longer testing the waters peeps - I am jumping right on in and doing laps!
P.S Want to see my awesome new bruise? Well here it is...
