Dear 2012,
We've only just met so a quick introduction, I'm [removed] but you can call me "Miss Can't Drink in Texas Just Yet". A twenty year old music lover who now calls Melbourne home.
I'm writing to you because 2011 is leaving me. We shared some great memories, and admittedly some not so good memories, but nothing we couldn't work through. 2011 taught me a lot about myself, and for once I put myself first. I quit my old job and landed myself a "proper" job. I paid back money that was owed, and I finally began to stop worrying about everyone else. Just a few of my accomplishments this year.
I started in Melbourne, and will finish the year here, and I'm really happy.
After a couple of ciders now and then, 2011 made me realise who my true friends are, and how important there are. I was able to maintain strong friendships with two Perth friends (one will be moving to Melbourne in 2012!) and also developed better friendships with two Melbourne friends. 2011 also saw me make a new friend, a friendship which has developed so easily. I don't think 15 year old me would have guessed we'd both be living in Melbourne in 2011, but I'm stoked I'm able to call her a good friend. With these five friendships, I'm slowly learning to open up, and actually talk about myself for once.
Despite living on the other side of Australia, 2011 made me closer to my family. The separate visits to Melbourne this year definitely helped, as each were able to see what my life is like now, and I got to talk to them one on one.
Don't get me wrong 2012, I think you and I will get along really well. I'm just letting you know you've got some competition with 2011. Well here's five easy to read dot points, hopefully easy enough for you to remind me of.
Attempt to find some balance between the day job, other work and my social life.
Be more active. Pretty self explanatory really.
Meet new people.
Do something different every now and then.
Strengthen relationships with family and friends.
Bring on the new year!
Thanks for the first five, 2012.
